A phobia is an intense, persistent fear of a specific object, situation, or activity that is out of proportion to any actual danger. Whether it's a fear of heights, spiders, flying, needles, or something else entirely, phobias are highly treatable with the right approach.
Exposure-based CBT is the most effective treatment for phobias. Your therapist will work with you to gradually face feared situations in a safe, controlled way — reducing the fear response over time. EMDR can also be helpful for phobias with a traumatic origin.
